This is a rather long news report about a crew of Detroit firefighters who were caught on tape by a homeowner removing a storm door from a vacant home, putting it in their hosebed and driving off.

There's no 'final' report other than representatives suggesting it was an effort to put a new storm door on the firehouse because of limited funds ... but the investigation is ongoing and it wasn't immediately clear if that was the case.

Watch for yourself ... but the biggest point should be -- no matter what you do as a firefighter, the public is always watching.

I don't like how the fire house lied and said, I don't know any of those guys.

Including apparently the OIC the day the reporter went there....
honestly, if someone asked me a question about guys in my firehouse with a camera and something possibly illegal, I would refuse to answer/lie and then take a card to give chief... I dont know the full story and I know what I could say to the media would get taken out of context. I feel that thats not the entire story and Fox is spinning to inflate ratings...
the thing that strikes me as fishy is that they didnt seem at all worried in the video.secondly if they were doing something illegal i very seriously doubt that they would use a fire truck to do it because fire apparatus causes the public to rubberneck at whatever is going on. thirdly they wouldnt steal it in daylight and last they would have been looking around and and would have seen this person on their front porch recording them. i hope this report isnt true and what these guys did if they did was wrong. i just think it sounds too fishy so until proven guilty i have their back on this one .
Something is not right but there are 2 sides to every story and the news is only one side of that.
As a former Detroiter of many years, and life long resident of southeast Michigan, I feel I am qualified to respond to each of your 3 points with one word, DETROIT.
This stuff happens all the time in the city, has for decades. Now somebody possibly caught firefighters in a criminal act, the same types of acts that have been ignored by the local media for years, now its news. Scott Lewis (the fox 2 reporter) is a jackass sensationalist.
the news will ruin a fire department's image if they can. Been there, done that. They do what they can to make a story juicy without being caught manipulating it.
