yeah well trust me i participate. and a lot of times i go first on drills just so i can set the bar. i dont agree with the girls who join and then thank they can get out of stuff because of it. if you join you should do the work!!! it gives the rest of us bad names. im going to do whatever i can and do it to the best of my ability!!!
i think one main reason why us girls are more dedicated to training and being the best is cause we feel we have to prove ourselves. its not that bad when a guy shows us up, but we like to show them sometimes. and it should make them work a whole lot harder. thanks
I think this is great girls can do nething a guy can some have it some dont same with guys. My mom is a firefighter, she has her ff1 and ff2 certs her emt/paramedic and she inspires me im fixin to start my career in her footsteps we also currently hav 3 other ladies on our dept who work just as hard as neone else just keep wit it and stay safe!
yeah im the only girl in the whole dept. in my post the guys get so mad when i beat them at drills. but i liking picking with them and sometimes calling them out (if ya know what i mean). they hate it so badly.
im an explorer and in our post we dont have any girls but i dont see anything wrong with it.
i am not a junior but i will say this, we have some women in my department who i would trust a lot more than some of the guys. I think its awesome having girls in there doing the job
In my department we have 2 girls, and they are great. I dont care a persons gender so long as they participate, learn, and dont raise too much hell inside the firehouse.
Hello, I'm the advisor for a cadet program we started about 4 months ago. I have 13 members and only 4 of them are boys. My 2 top officers are girls and do a wondeful job. The boys really give them the respect they deserve. Im new at this explorer stuff and could use your help with ideals on what you do to keep people interested. I tried for 5 years to get this going and really want to make it work. Anyone reading this please e-mail me with any hints at firefighter_5228@yahoo.com thanksany help is needed. Sounds like you are doing a great job keep it up and stay safe.
Chelsea,
I'm a Lieutenant and the training officer in my department. We did not have women on the department untill 2000. When we went to a combination department we started hiring women, not that we would not have accepted them in the past but that there was no intrest in it.. I was and am good friends with a formenr peramedic/firefighter that was a woman, and we had this discution. I thoughty I was impartial but she showed me that i nor any other man in the department was. I would follow or take her anywhere, fire ems rescue it didnt matter but i would also watch her closer than my men. It is instinct for the male to protect the female and I had to make an effort to suppress that feeling. That is why some men do not want women on the department, they feel that they would put themselves or others in harms way to "protect". Personally I feel that if a woman can do the job, so be it. Pull your weight and lets go home.

One other thing. Do not get discouraged, you as a woman must proove yourself each time you step off that truck. That came from the same lady I spoke about above. The only thing that I would say you should not do is get involved with another firefighter that you work with or respond mutual aid with. This can cause all kinds of problems, personally and profetionally.

Be Safe, and give em Hell.

Ron
well im not a guy but there 3 of us women on our department and we can do just about as much as a guy can and yeah they take it a lil offensive but who cares it just proves girls can do stuff just as good as guys
I am not against women firefighters if they are able to pull their weight in addition to coming through by pulling the weight of another person that could be 200+lbs. to save a life. If women have gone through the same rigorous training that men have gone through and shine-More power to you! My husband is a firefighter and if he falls through the floor of a building, man or woman who is fit to attempt to save his life?

Check out crossesofcourage.com The gallery speaks for itself and I would love to tell my husband I am shipping our sales to women firefighters. We have yet to make a single sale to a woman Firefighter.

Thanks for your time!
i don't have a problem with girls in the explorers im a explorer for post 20 in oklahoma city and im a LT and there are 2 girls in my post and your right they do better than most of the guys and both of them are LT'S like me but we worked our butt off for our ranks i cant say much for the other members of my post they goof off and they are still probies
