Why would you say that IT12? We all signed up for this stuff. We get paid to do this stuff. He risked his life to save that woman, just like he's supposed to. The man was on duty, had a duty to act, did his best, and succeeded.
We all take the job knowing that we might have to do something like that someday. That woman never asked to be there.
He took a calculated risk...He risked his life to save a life, which IS proper. The fact that he was successful proves that he calculated the risk well.
I hope we never see the day when firefighters fail to act because the see the situation as dangerous. We used to joke that someday we'd order a guy into a building and he'd turn around and say, "You can't send me in there Capt, that place is on fire!"

I'm not saying that we should take unnecessary risks, just that the risks that Capt Nolan took were necessary. I'm glad there are guys like him around!

By the way, Captain Nolan was released from Mass General Hospital later that night.
