Dichotomy of Attitudes, Behaviors, and Culture

The great dichotomy within today’s fire service is all about perceived culture. The improvement of our culture as a whole within the emergency services is relative to our specific paradigms. Much can be done as has been implemented already but there is so much more work to do. It's the whole nature vs. nurture argument. As…See More

How To Become The Best Version of YOU! Identifying Morals, Values, and Principles

There are plenty leaders standing alone on the proverbial organizational island. It has been said time and time again “the higher up the food chain we ascend, the lonelier we may become.” Why is this so? Perhaps we may have lost sight of how vital our values and principles transcend any leadership style. Let’s identify a few of what may be many examples of the values and principles that are exemplified by outstanding leaders in the…See More

Leadership Exemplified - How to BE the Example

Most of us in the fire and emergency services would agree that leadership matters and is vital to the successful outcomes of any organization. We could also agree that many so called leadership gurus and fire service personalities are out on the circuit pontificating their tricks of the trade. There is certainly no shortage of people instructing or promoting their own “how to” guide to get other people to accomplish tasks that you…See More

About Me:
John is a career fire officer with an urban fire department in New Jersey and has over 20 years in the fire service. He has earned his fire officer (FO) credentials from the Center for Public Safety Excellence and is a National Fire Academy Alumni.

John has a passion for training, mentoring, and inspiring up-and-coming officers and firefighters. He has served as an Instructor with the Bergen County Fire Academy, a member of Project Kill the Flashover, and currently serves as the NJ State Lead Advocate for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

John believes that his time as a U.S. Marine engrained several fundamental fire service principles—discipline, education, and servant leadership. He is passionate about helping others in seeking continuous improvement through providing cutting-edge training and education.

John’s definition of success is seeing those that he has trained, mentored, and inspired become great leaders themselves. It is his desire that these leaders inspire other firefighters to do the same—thus having a positive ripple effect on the fire service.

John has presented at International, National & Regional Conferences such as: The International Fire Rescue Training Academy (Germany), Firehouse Expo, Firehouse World, South Atlantic Fire Rescue Expo, Ohio Fire & EMS Expo, FDIC, the Center for Public Safety Excellence Conference , South Carolina Fire Rescue Conference, just to name a few.
