TNT: The Accidental Runner :...ONE...LAST...TIME.....Ruh-Roh

I'm a masochist.

There, I said it. A friend of mine (you may have seen him wandering around here --he has a Big White Hat) says that the first step in recovery is admitting that you have a problem.

I do have a problem. I have a problem with little kids dying from an incurable blood cancer.
So...in the spirit of putting my money where my big fat mouth is...

Once again, I'm going to run the Lake Placid Half Marathon for the Upstate NY/VT Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in June, 2009. The LLS has a fundraising branch called Team in Training (I prefer Team in Torture, but to each his or her own) which allows individuals to raise funds for the Society by participating in athletic endurance events; triathlons (no thanks, I'd probably drown), 100-mile bike rides (uh, no....one flat tire and I'd be out of the game), full marathons (not with my knees) and half marathons (the lesser of four evils).

I'll be running 13.1 miles in Lake Placid, NY (think hills....a LOT of hills....and not surprisingly...they're all UPhill ) and raising my minimum of $1500.00

Incidentally, this will be my FIFTH half marathon....I ran in the very first Lake Placid Half all the way back in 2005, and have run in every single one since....all for Leukemia.

I'll be posting my training and fundraising progress on here for your amusement.
Also, for the second year in a row, I'll be running in honor of an amazing young woman from Western NY, her dad's on here and is a fellow FOGIE.

Wish me luck, send me Motrin and ice packs, and when I post my fundraising page and if you're feeling philanthropic, feel free to donate.

God help me.

UPDATE: Who's in trouble? Oh, that would be me. I'm in trouble. I've been so crazy busy with eight million things happening in my life all at the same time, that I FORGOT TO START MY FUNDRAISING.
If I don't raise $1500.00 by the end of May, I have to pay for it out of pocket, and they have my credit card number. Can you help a sister out and donate? I have a whopping $30 so far.
Here's the link to my page, you can donate right on the site (completely secure) or if you prefer, you can email me here and I'll tell you where to send a check.

You folks pushed me WAY past my fundraising minimum last year. This year, all I want to hit is the minimum. I know times are financially tight for everyone.
Thanks
Mel

Thanks guys....with two hand-in checks I'm just over $1000 in one day. Desperation, whining and pleading must have it's own unique charm.
Hey Art? Would you mind bringing a couple of earth movers to Lake Placid and leveling the playing field a little bit? I don't think the locals will mind.....

OK pretty girl... How do I get my name on your shirt again? How do I get more FnGirl stories? What's it going to take?

Mel, you out running this morning?

Mel,
I think what you are doing is amazing. Brianna and others like her need people who are willing to open their hearts, wallets and/or strap on the running shoes. You have a great group of people here who support your efforts. I gave last year and I will gladly give this year too.
Good luck with your fundraising and your training!

thank you to everyone else who commented....Kim, Ted, Mike, Bob, Jim, Kali, Joe, Kenz, you know who you are.
I literally couldn't do this without knowing you are in my corner.

Quick side story....during our Leukemia Society Board Meetings, we have "Mission Moments" where someone talks about what motivates them to do what they do for LLS. I talked about FFN and the FOGIES and Brianna, and all of you. You warm my heart, restore my faith, and put wings on my feet.
Thank you.
Love,
Mel

Dave,
Anything for you, Colleen and Brianna...maybe it's not by blood, but you're family nonetheless.
