58 Vehicle pile up on QE#2 HWY North Bound

Friday Nov 27th 2009

A 5 alarm tone out for Fire Stn's in Southern Alberta (20 k from Calgary AB)

Tone out came about 14:00 hours, for a 58 Vehicle MVC Northbound HWY #2. Snow and ice were a factor in this mess of mangled metal from trucks, cars, and semi trucks scattered a 6 k stretch of hwy.
5 dept's were toned out to this crash call as well as a 2 dozen ambulances from two different stns responded. Hwy #2 was closed for more than 6 hrs both directions north bound and south bound while fire and ems attended to the vic's of the accident.
Sadly there was 1 Code black pt and a hand full of red and yellow, 75% were green. Special thanks to all the men and women involved and with the fire and ems stn's there that day.

It seems that sometimes in the US we forget about our neighbors to the North when it comes to quality Fire Departments. Canada is full of very professional and progressive Fire and EMS Departments. I was not there for this 5 Alarmer, but I am confident that our Northern neighbors did an exceptional job as they always do. Great Job!

Reminds me of the 80 vehicle pile-up on I80 in PA that occurred 3 winters ago. What a mess, I think the response amounted to 7 or 8 alarms, miraculously there were no fatalities.
