New vest rule

I have to say its funny that the day before the new rule is to take effect my state's fire marshall starts saying that our bunker gear is all we need. This after everyone has ran all over trying to get their hands on the new vests. I was always told that the state could not over ride a rule that NFPA has set. So what is right? We already have the vest and will use them so that we are all a little safer. But when it comes down to it when you have rubber neckers no one is ever safe, watch your… Continue

Notes from a Rookie Firefighter

Last night was our last class on the topic of Hazmat confinement and containment. We had a top expert in Essex County as our speaker. The instructor had so many interesting stories about situations, especially involving children and schools, that I was thinking if there was a way he could speak in front of parents that would be awesome. As a parent, I find it frightening that kids can pick up information about explosives through the internet.

We're off from the Academy for a few… Continue

Don't Sue McDonalds because YOU left naked photos lying around!

Taken from KCMQ.com.

If you don’t want anyone to see nude photos of your wife, then don’t leave your phone at a restaurant. Lesson learned by Phillip Sherman of Arkansas….he left his phone at a McDonald’s and the next thing he knew photos of his naked wife that were stored on the phone appeared online. Now Phillip and his wife are suing McDonald’s for $3 million in damages for suffering, embarrassment and having to move to a new home. I understand the embarrassment part, but don’t… Continue

Daily Dumbass November 24, 2008

Taken from KCMQ.com

A woman is divorcing her husband after finding a photo of him doing a lewd sexual act in his iPhone’s sent e-mail folder. The man admitted to her that he took the photo, but claims he never e-mailed it to anyone and blamed it all on a ‘misunderstanding’ caused by a ‘glitch’ in the phone’s software. In other words, “It’s not me, honey, it’s the iPhone’s fault.” The woman called tech support, who told her there was no technological glitch, but that she might be… Continue

I remember when

Riding tailboard on a nice summer evening.
Counting down the minutes until Emergency was on again.(first run, not repeats)
Before cabs were completely enclosed, standing up and looking over the roof.
Leaving the 'barn doors' open on responses.

is an 8 year old to young to learn healthcare provider CPR?

my son is very smart for his age, and i think he is plenty strong enough. he hits the gym with me and is an impressive 102lbs. at 6 years old we let him take the yearly dept. refresher on fire ext. and he put out a class b burn with a 5lb ext. so do you think he is to young? i gave him the option to take the full class, and he wants to, only thing i'll have to have someone do for him is read the test and key. is it a bad idea, or should i let him at it?

Firefighters Excluded from New High-Visibility Vest Law (If they're involved in firefighting, Hazmat)

Realizing that they would be putting firefighters in jeopardy by requiring them to wear a vest that doesn't meet NFPA standards, federal officials have modified a new law.

Firefighters working along highways will be exempt from wearing high-visibility vests while they are actively engaged in or in close proximity to flame, high heat, flames or hazardous materials.

Federal Highway Administration officials announced the modifications Friday based on concerns posed by fire… Continue

Shout out

Just getting ready to go to Dallas for the Texas state EMS conference. I am a honor guard member so we do the opening and some other stuff. If you are going to be safe on the road trip and everyone else keep your heads up so we do not have to add to the wall of honor for state EMS deaths anymore. Last year there were no names to add lets try that again. stay safe

Loving a Warrior

by Sara Roberts

A dear friend of mine is getting married. He sent me this pic and wanted me to write something to share at his reception on Warrior Love. I have been in a position to watch many a warrior fall in love, commit and then the relationship shatters. The Warrior left saddened and the lover left angry and frustrated. I have also seen amazing, enduring, passionate marriages, and I asked those lovers, spouses, partners, what it… Continue

Grandma and a lovely little thing in her leg

Well, I found out that my grandma has a blood clot in her femoral artery....... :^( They are unsure if they can do anything for her just yet. Some tests have to be run to see if a stint will help. I can handle a lot of things but haven't ever considered steeling myself for this... I should have expected something to happen though, simply because they go in threes in my blood line. Buried my Great Aunt whom I was very close to. I used to sit with her and care for her (Alzhiemers and some other… Continue
