Adam's Angels - 2nd Blog Post "Word Simply Aren't Enough..."

On Friday, a funeral was held for John McNamara. For those of you who do not know the story of "Johnny Mac," he passed away after a three year battle with cancer due to his time at Ground Zero after the tragic events of September 11th. He was a founder of the NYC Firefighter Brotherhood Foundation which helps FDNY members suffering from cancers because of their time at the WTC site. As you may or may not know, this foundation is actually one of our two Brother-2-Brother initiative… Continue

Notes from a Rookie Firefighter

Notes from a Rookie Firefighter...August 16, 2009

I have wanted to write a post for weeks, but don't know what to say. I'd like to say something witty, like I'm going to the beach each weekend, or I'm sitting by a pool with a beer in my hand, but I cannot tell a lie.

While the rest of the world seems to be enjoying a great summer, or in NJ at least, I am struggling with real life issues that would have crushed another person. Yes, crushed. The fact that I know I can reach… Continue

Update

Sorry that I have missed some messages lately. I have sold my house and had a great deal of work to finish not counting that I still have to work all the time but things seem to be on the up and up. The next test for the FD is coming up so time to get started. I am going to kick the CPAT butt this time. Hope everyone has been good, stay safe, and have a wonderful day.

Are You Leading by Example, or Are You Just in Charge?

You Can’t Force It: Are you leading by example, or are you just in charge?

By Scott Cook

It’s that time of year again: The FireRescue magazine staff and board just selected the 2009 Company Officer of the Year. The list of candidates this year was loaded with people who’ve really made a difference, not just in their crew, but in their department and their community.

They’re not like Capt. Frank. Note: Although Capt. Frank is a… Continue

Cop Arrests Firefighter

Listen to the Veteran Firefighters.

I am a 20 year old volunteer firefighter. I have been in the fire service for five years. I have noticed from experience and other ways that a lot of the younger firefighters are the little think they know it all types. I have noticed this about a couple of them. The best thing you can do is listen to the older veteran firefighters on your departments. If you are unsure of something or don't know something don't let your pride get in the way. People get hurt when they are at a lack of knowledge… Continue

Rescue Report: 3 Trapped in CA Ravine

RESCUE REPORT: California Firefighters Rescue Group Stuck in Ravine

On April 27, Palo Alto firefighters responded to a local natural hazard that, at least for a while, seemed to be collecting victims. Palo Alto City Hall received a 911 call at 1217 HRS reporting that a 91-year-old male was trapped in a ravine in Foothills Park in Palo Alto, approximately 30 miles south of San Francisco.

Palo Alto Fire dispatched Engine 2 and a medic… Continue

Uncommon Rescue

We were called out on a service call, a horse "stuck in a ditch". We arrived on scene and find the horse has fallen through and into a 500 gallon septic tank. Now I personally have never let my horses roam my yard, but the owners of this filly, (that's a young female horse for you city folk) let her do exactly that.

With assistance from the SPCA, veterinarian, and good sedation, we were able to extract the horse in just over an hour, and except for a few minor abrasions was… Continue
