Hello to the group. I am new to the website. My dept is a volunteer dept. Out of 14 active members 4 are female. Our Asst Chief is a female and a fulltime FF in a different dept. I don't have any problem at all with female FF's and don't see why anyone would.

My feeling about female FF is simple. If you can pack up an go inside its all good. I've had several females who been my partner inside an did an awesome job, an let nothing bother them "First In--Last Out" Once a FF always a FF

@ J Rivers...I went through the same thing with my first department. It seemed the only reason they put me on was to do the secretarial and fundraising duties. My mistake was that I kept quiet and let them do it to me. When I changed departments, I decided not to let it happen again. I spoke up and let them know that I wanted to be a firefighter and not a secretary. Where I had to step up is to do any and everything the guys did and not hold back on anything. I found my limitations and worked around them. When the guys tried to do something for me, I would push them back and continue myself...this mainly being in the station. If you don't first show them that you can work beside them inside the firehouse, they will never respect you on scene.

Hope this helps!
