Difference between certifications
Does anyone know the difference between FF I/II and First/Second Class/Master Firefighter? I live in Indiana and I recently took my test for Firefighter I/II. But there are some departments where I noticed that members are listed as being First Class, Second Class, or Master Firefighter. Is that the old certification levels? I can't find any information on this.

Everything that you are talking about is based on experience (at least in Washington.) Master FF, First class (also referred to as journeyman), second class, third class (also referred to as probie) are generally related to departments that participate in an apprenticeship program and are based on a three year apprenticeship. They are different levels so you start at the academy; you are a recruit. Then you get your assignment; now you are FF 3rd class. Fininsh your 1st year and get bumped to 2nd, and so on. FF1 and FF2 are certification levels recognozed as you know by IFSAC/NFPA. Some places don't accept FF1 or FF2 unless they are IFSAC accredited. But what you are asking about involves experience level.
