We use at least two if we use a truck company,(2 man truck, 3 man Eng, 3 man Rescue) or three if we use the rescue company. We have used RIT for a long time, but the old mentality of having them sit out front and do nothing is gone. We do a RIT 360 and soften up the structure to prevent guys from not having secondary egress. Being in Florida storm shutters are a problem all year round, some people leave them up. RIT is not aloud to attempt atask that would prevent them from respoding in a moments notice. Be safe brothers!
for us in Montreal, we don`t have rit team, we try to change the thinking of the departement but alot of guys and chief think that we don`t need this kind of team
Our second arriving engine has automatic duty of:
-officer: Incident Safety Officer
-crew: RIT (3 personnel)

Safety Officer commands the RIT if the RIT makes entrance.

Four is hopefully the bare minimum. Coming from a small combination department, I understand the challenges of committing resources, but it is obvious this is a needed change in the fire service (RIT assignment). Idealy i would love to see at least 3 ff's, an officer, and an executive office to be activated to the command post if a mayday occurs.
