Got a field tube and two drugs today. Still a lot more to go.

Finished the Assessment chapter, cleared to ride clinicals. Waiting on titre results for my physical so I can turn paperwork in to the hospital. Had to re-take MMR and get a Tetanus update. Supposedly, the Government kept my records, but neither the Marine Corps nor the VA can find them. Cheaper and less aggravating in the long run to just get the shots again.

Jumping into Patient Assessment. Hasn't changed since Basic, except I can't ask for ALS backup anymore. Assessment practicals next week, test on Friday, then we can begin clinicals. Tightening the belt some more since I don't have much time for work now as it is.

Class is underway. Drug calculations and ethics/legal issues discussion makes an old man's head spin, but this instructor has a lot of knowledge and his style is fun, so I'll enjoy my time, I'm sure. 46 students in this class, 8 of whom are friends. Interesting to see how many we whittle down to in the end.

My opinions and statements are not always popular.

Get your Basic first before deciding how far to go. It's not for everyone. You may decide it's not for you, hopefully before you lay out lots of cash and time. Do lots of ride time, and after you've seen a busted up body or a dead kid, and you still think you can do it, then go for it all the way. We need good people, stable people, dedicated people, and lots of them.
Read, read, read. And common sense. Look, listen, and learn from the Paramedics you trust. This isn't a static business, things are always changing.

Good luck.

I was told by someone I respect that going to Intermediate first would give me skills I could use to make Paramedic easier. But, that's not exactly been my experience. Sure, I got 2 years worth of IVs now, but I have picked up little more than that. Your mileage may vary depending on permitted skills in your state.

I'm just about to enter the tunnel, so looking for the light at the end is far in my future. But damn its nice to finally be getting ready to begin
