It's a good thing we all have a sense of humor and imagination in this business, and sometimes maybe just a little too much imagination. LOL. I'm Lisa but the nickname that'll follow me for eons is Kinky Boots. OK, I admit to one stereotypical female bad habit, SHOES! Flats, wedges, stilettos, boots, platform, any color and design you can imagine. I was coming home from lunch with a friend when my pager went off for a call. Long story short, I wasn't planning on jumping in the rig for a CPR in progress, but yeah, we know how that goes. We did a load and go, trying for an ALS intercept. No choppers, no ALS from neighboring districts, they were on their own calls. I had my driver and one other FF, and he wasn't getting off that rig, because we have a 30 minute transport. Loooooong time to be doing CPR alone. Our patient was a large man and the easiest and most effective way was for me to just about straddle the pt, due to windy conditions, crappy roads, long tx time. Oh, might want to mention my knees are shot, 8 surgeries, more to come. So, when we get to the ED, I was on the pram with the pt, and I'm trying to get off the pt and out of the way and give report. Yeah, knees were NOT cooperating. I had both knees locked, and was wearing a sweater dress with a pair of black leather stiletto boots. The skirt had ridden up, my neckline kinda went down, and me stuck, lovely!! The guys decided that they would honor my commitment to proving that not all female firefighters are 'not attractive', and that yes we can wear girly things when we aren't working. So, no more razzing about my MANY pairs of shoes, because they all got pictures, damnit! Uh, but only the "true" brothers and sisters would bring it up around our Chief. Hmmm, yeah, the Chief is my husband, and he laughed as much as we all did, but the newer, less experienced members all thought he would have their head on a platter if they teased me. Hahaha! Not likely, he still has the picture, and he knew I was more than capable of handling something if it bothered me. So, probably the least 'girly girl' FF/EMT, smacked with KINKY BOOTS because I DO love my footwear, and so does he! Have a good one, stay safe!!

Hello, my name is Christine Honaker and while I was attending Fire School in London, Ky. I was given the nickname "Pine Knot". Instructor Stepp was the one that started calling me this, due to being tough and enjoying our training. I was one of the older Firefighters in our group, and it never stopped me from doing what was required of me, and I went above and beyond in training.
