Hello folks! I'm from The Netherlands and I own a Buell XB9S motorbike. It's great to find a firefighters bike group here where I could join in. Safe riding you'll!!

Hello all...just joined local chapter of the Red Knights...Have 2 rides...one a classic 1973 Norton and the other a 2010 Victory....Great time to ride...leaves turning, a little "bite" in the air....

Ah, this is my favorite time of the year to ride.
Full leathers; bike running flawlessly. Awesome.
Got to watch out for the farmers, however.
Ride safe.

Just came back from a 7 day trip that included Mamoth Cave in KY, Tail of the Dragon in Tenn. and ended up in Northeast Georgia. The family did the Tail of the Dragon in a 2010 Buick LaCrosse AWD to check out the roads before riding them on my bike. Yes i stayed in my lane the entire time! WOW is all I can say!

Even in the cage it was such a blast to drive the switchbacks! One of the best kept secrets and what appears to be a twin to the Dragon Tails is Route 28 out of Deals Gap down into North Carolina! You've gotta do it! Same type of switch backs with a whole lot less traffic! Before you start the Dragon's Tail stop at the H-D Outpost on 129 South. All makes are welcome there and it's a fueling stop!

One essential piece of information you WANT to have before starting is to send for the "Circle The Smokies - Townsend Day Trips. email:info@smokymoutains.org - website: www.smokymountains.org.
The pamphlet has a GREAT map of the Smoky Mountain National Park.
On our way back we did the eastern leg of the park going up through Cherokee, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and then on into Knoxville and home.

This pamphlet shows about 8 or 9 rides you can do. By the way, they only close the roads if it's been raining and flooding has occurred. It was open the week of 8-1-10 to 8-7-10.

Take your time and let the sport bikes blow by you, there's too much to see and it's not worth any danger adrenaline rush you might get out of it. Yeah people have died on those roads so be careful - but enjoy!

Hope you enjoy and the site and maps should prepare you adequately and provide phone numbers to check daily to see if the road has been closed.

I know my wife an I want to go back again to stay and explore Gatlinburg this time - on the bike!

Great day for a ride. Perfect weather.
Went to Woodstock, IL Harley Davidson.
Ate at Culver's.
Came back on Route 47.
Lots of construction going on.
But still a great ride.

me too! It would be a shame to ride that far and have it be closed, although there are other good roads in the Smokeys to ride, just not the same.

I was passing through from Indianpolis to Savannah when I was there in June and thought I'd hit it enroute, so to speak, but had to take the detour instead. :-| Still a good ride, but claim to have ridden the Dragon's Tail.

I rode plenty of tough, twisty roads in Korea though, and miss mountain riding very much, all of the roads down here in the Low Country/Coastal Georgia are flat and straight.

From what I have been reading, it is open again. We plan on riding about 1000 miles to do this, I hope it is open!

Is it reopened yet? I was closed due to rockslides when I was there in late June.

Planning a trip toward the end of Aug to the "Dragon". Anyone ever ridden it?
