Agreed I am driving up wind as fast as possible.  Please tell me that said truck wasnt speeding too much.

ehh...I see no biggie really. First one really doesn't know what is being transported, nor the quantity, except for the driver.

 

In reality one could find much more dangerous stuff on a vehicle with a "Please drive safely" placard on it. It could have all sorts of nasties that don't play well together, yet in quantities less than what calls for a placard.

I saw a similar set of placards on a truck but it was Oxidizer, Flammable and Corrosive.  I had the same thought.

I agree with that. I don't respond to haz mat calls except for gas spills. Had one a couple of years ago where lightning hit an underground gas storage tank causing the fill area to malfunction and the gas to come up and go all over the place and even into the near by creed due to the storm sewer discharge. I spent almost 3 ours on the scene and it went on for another 2 hours before units cleared.

 As a hazmat tech by profession and a volunteer fire fighter, that combination really isn't that bad or uncommon.  No inhalation hazards, no water reactives, no organic peroxides.  What's important to remember is that the general public often transports much more dangerous material with little to no knowledge of the hazards.  Propane cylinders, welding gasses, fertilizer and the like can cause just as many problems, but without the visual warnings that the D.O.T. requires for commercial motor vehicles.
