What issues, concerns, problems should be addressed this year by our national fire service organizations?

Staffing, both volunteer and career.  Serious funding to allow fire departments to do their job.

More research into modern fires happening in modern construction.  Web need to stop training firefighters to fight the fires of the past.

What challenges in your area need greater attention?

Staffing, training, funding.  

What one area do you hope will be improved in your fire department?

More than anything I would love to see more staffing.  Both departments I am involved with, one a POC and another a POC, POP, Career combo, both need more personnel.  The sad truth is in the volunteer, POC and POP ranks, people's lives are busier today and time restrictions have made it harder for people with families to find the time.

We must find better incentives for people to belong and perhaps alternative training schedules to accommodate more people.  We must be more open and welcoming to differing populations.  We must no longer look or act like some private club.
