I think Tom Griswold (the O.P.) must have been invoking Matthew 6:5-6 all along. I'm inclined to believe that whispering a prayer or saying it in your head, as Tom suggested, is sufficiently secretive.

OK. The distinction - such as it is - between "their prayers are bullshit" and "prayer is bullshit" is noted.

I'd agree with that, however posting such things here, on the public street corner as it were, may still be what matthew was referring to. I don't think matthew (quoting jesus) would find much (if any) distinction between praying in public and letting others know that you pray (in private).
