I am a member of the Columbia/Richland fire dept. in Columbia SC, and will be relocating to the eden prarie area within the next 5-9 months and want to get a job in the fire service. My department now is a combination department of both paid and volunteer and i am a paid member. I have Certifications above and beyond the minimum for most departs however i do not have an emt-b cert. Im just looking for information on some paid departments that may be hiring in the near future and wondering what the best steps to take would be to get my foot in the door. thanks for all your help and as always stay safe.

My suggestion would be to join a Paid On Call fire department right away. The area you are moving to has some very good Paid on Call departments. Unfortunately Minnesota has a very few career departments in relation to Paid On Call ones. The good news is, the departments that are career are starting to see an influx of retirements in the coming years, so job prospects will be better than they have been. Just start applying and testing and get on those hiring lists.

Thanks for the info. You're right, its looking like im going to have to be a volunteer for a little while and just go from there.
