I was wondering if any departments carry extrication tools on their ladder truck for vehicle extrication. Some departments carry the same items on both a squad and a ladder truck just that a squad would carry the tools which a truck might not in some departments. Some departments might do it to save money on having two different vehicles.

We have 22 Truck companies in the city. All of them are set up to do vehicle extrications. They have cribbing, combi tool saw zaw,. Then we have two heavy Rescues that carry everything hydraulic. Multi tools,Air bags, cribbing, etc.

It all comes down to what your dept. needs and what works best for you. One thing I forgot to mention, Our Trucks do not have water tanks and if they do we do not carry water on them. For a few reasons. One being the abilatie to load more extrication equipment on them. Another reason is it cuts down on the wear and tare. on the Trucks. Also our Truck companies only go on ems calls, if all other pieces are out in that district.

Another thing you must look at is weight. How much weight will you be adding to the Truck? Are you able to cut it down if you need to? Are there mutual aid companies that have extrication equipment? Do any of them have a heavy Rescue?
