With all of the recent activity regarding Junior Firefighters and Explorers, I suddenly remembered a document authored by the Volunteer Firemen's Insurance Services (VFIS) organization.

This document spells out minimum ages, guidelines and so forth on a state by state basis. Those looking for information specific to their state can read what VFIS has found out about that state.

It was published in 1998, so there may have been some changes here and there. But it can be a good reference guide for those wishing to know more about these unique programs.

(Webmaster: It might be a good idea if this were placed in a "FAQ" section or as a "sticky" on top of the page. Just an idea.)
