yeah - good idea

study fire science - it will get you a FF job faster when you go to get a paid FF job.

and volunteering for a few years will also help you build skills to work your way up to Boston FD, or other dream departments
I can validate that one... :D

So you really want to become a firefighter... Hmmm... You are 18, so I am not going to take the same touchy feely track that others posting on this forum have done. Why? Because I really don't think any of the advise is salient to your issues and if someone doesn't say something here, you will never realize your dreams...

Here's my take Mark:

1. You said that you were made fun of in your post by your:

• Family
• Friends
• Kids at school

Answer: Who cares? By reading your post, the last thing a company officer needs is a whiner, and your forum post is pretty much a whine fest.

2. You get so upset at people making fun of you that had it not been for the teacher being in the right place or the right time, you would have knocked down your friend for teasing you.

Observation: VERY THIN SKIN + You seem to get your feelings hurt very easily. Plus at the age of 18, knocking someone down means assault and battery. Is this the type of person you are? Uh oh...

3. At the age of 18, and I have known many mature 18 year olds, you do not fit that category... the being mature part.

Observation: Even though you really want to be a part of this profession, at your current maturity level, don't waste your time. You need to do some serious growing up dude, seriously. You've got high maintenance written all over you bud. Man up and stop whining about people making fun of you.

Keep your mouth shut and eyes wide open. Who care what other people think? Oh yea, you have not grown up yet and are still very very young.

It's time to come to the realization that it's time to stop whining, man up and move forward with your dreams. No one cares more about you than you.

Good luck and please take this frank reply to heart. Your future and career depends on it.

Now that's cool Mark. Your sense of humor here and basically blowing me off is what I wanted to see from you. This is the attitude you NEED to have to enable people to size you up and make the decision to put their confidence in you. Trust is an earned thing, hence the importance of reading, and retracing what I said above. I have helped many firefighters get tier own badges. Listen to what I said and you will eventually get one of your own. Be patient and mature with all decisions, actions and comments.

Note: Just your caption alone that people make fun of you is classic whining. I know, I have three daughters which makes me an expert on sniveling and whining detection. Just sayin'
Mark, Capt Bz makes some excellent points !!! I was too gentle and nurturing with you...

(but Mark don't tell him that, since it will make his head swell!)

whining in the FD will lead to the brothers... in the brotherhood to endlessly kicking your ass... ok, not literally, but they will tease you endlessly (out of love... they will claim)

c
case in point... I crashed a car 20 years ago - and it made the front page of the paper... they still harrass me about it !
oh oh ! Am I hearing wedding bells BZ
Sure hope not, one wife is enough and with 30+ years invested, plus my retirement.. I don't think so!
