Hey Mark:

If you want to be a firefighter, then you study and pursue your dream.

There is a saying, "a career picks a person... not a person picks a career."

If we follow our interests and our internal drive and study and learn and stay focused, then we can have a happy successful career in a job that we are passionate about. Then you can make money and take care of your family and enjoy yourself WHILE WORKING.

Many many many people work for money - and HATE their jobs.

Many many people never followed their true career passions and they let other people guide their careers and job choices, and miserably wander through life.

So these people who are threatened by your drive to succeed at something you love - is just plain jealousy !!! Ignore them and keep pushing forward towards your dreams...

Life is short... too short to be side-tracked by people with no focus.

You will have a long career - and those people will be working hard just to figure out a career - while you will be well settled into a career - and happy to feed your passion.

So be strong. Stay focused. And ignore those jealous haters !!!

Those of us that came from FF families all acted that way (proudly) growing up !!! LOL (many of us still do)

study and learn and you shall succeed..........
Why are you not married dream girl what a waste of intelligence and witt. LOL
LOL - waiting for a man that can keep up ;-)

and trust me - my intelligence and wit are NOT wasted... I use them regularly to get into mischief... just ask anyone...
I guess you are in a area that doesn't have volunteer depts to join. Volunteers are always needing people and if things are right for a new member training starts after you join so that you can be ready to start riding after finish training.
Some schools have had fire cadet progams for high schools in some areas that prepare students in a career of firefighting.
Some areas have Boy Scouts of America programs of Exploring in firefighting which would be a great way to start.
Look around something could be out there for you.
Judging by your post I take it that you're still in middle school or early in high school. You're parents are right. Concentrate on your school work now. You won't ever become a career fireman if you don't graduate. Many are even starting to require college credits. You're still young and have your whole life ahead of you. So concentrate on school and having fun. You're a kid and it won't last forever. No point worrying about something that has no impact on your life right now anyway. Remember you can't be a fireman until you're at least 18 anyway.
I'M 18 and i'm not in middle school but i'm waiting till i'm 22 to be a firefighter
i wish there was a volunteer fire co near me but i had to move to western mass to join it
Why 22?
since you are 18 - why don't you move to a college that also has a volunteer fire department - then you can get educated and be a firefighter !
Mark if your eighteen do you plan on going to college? There are lots of colleges to attend to get you ready for a career in firefighting. I too am interested in why the magic number 22 is significant.
College Park Md has the University of Maryland and the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute as part of the college. There are many volunteer depts in the area along with the College Park Vol FD. You could go for fire engineering or any college course involving MFRI.
Don't let people with shallow minds discourage you from achieving your dream. Perhaps they can tell you're not 100% convinced it's for you. Look forward and upward and believe in yourself! Good luck and be safe.
