My department has at least two scheduled trainings a month however we often end having 10 or more trainings. Our scheduled trainings are usually taking the basics and expandings on them. Such has basic engine company ops like attack lines and then extending them and moving them and so fourth. Our unofficial/ unscheduled trainings are often spur of the moment and happen any time of the day. Its not uncommon to have people at my station training at 2200hrs and later. Those trainings are usually the basics such as ladders and pulling lines, usaully the firefighting basics. We like to often combine the EMS and Fire/Rescue aspects. Take for an example, a deer hunter in a tree stand 30-40ft up in a tree unconscious. Take your basic EMS and apply high angle rescue techniques and finding out what works. Or when you practice MVCs, use your EMS as well.

We also have a live burn trailer that we use. We let other stations from our county and surruonding counties and states as well. We can change the rooms around in it, simulate roll over and such. Obviously it becomes monatonous for the senior fire fighters but the new guys like it and the surrounding depts do as well.

we have drill nights every monday 7-?.  We also do random trainings throughout the month for our tech rescue personell so that we are nt taking away from all member trainings.  These are usually held on off nights. Also ahave the state trainings on weekend and occasional all day sat or sunday drill day.

We have state trainings on various weekdays and weekends as well such as your fighter fighter 1 and 2 or EMT or fire officer and any other fire/rescue training you can think of

My department has the 3rd and 4th wednesday of each month scheduled for fire training, with a training occasionally added to the 5th Wednesday when there is one. We also alternate the first Wednesday of the month between county OTEP and EMS training for our dept. We hold Saturday training about 6-8 times a year depending on where it can be fitted in. When we aqcuire a structure we'll fit in as much time with it before we burn it down. We also hold our EVAP and Hazmat trainings on Saturdays as we can fit them in. When we can afford it we also send members to out of area classes at conventions or the state fire academy.

By the book... 10am-noon every day except for Sunday and holidays.  However I can't remember the last time that I've been in my fire house without a run from 10-12. The other day we had a drill set up that we were going to do.  Of course when we got our first break at 630pm we decided to skip it.  However in those hours that we were busy we pulled lines for boxes, went on hazmats, and went on medical calls multiple times.  So a lot of training ends up being what we do every day.  It's hard to block off a few hours when you're running 15-20 runs/tour.

15-20 a tour? Wish I had that problem. We only get about 350 a year here.

Yeah we dont get 15-20 a day either.....we average around 550-600 a year on fire side and 1400 EMS

Yea that's about what we average each month.  haha  That's a single engine company.  The department gets about 170,000 each year.  We of course have some engine and truck companies that are slower.  I think our slowest truck only runs about 350/year in the richest part of town.

2k a year isnt bad at all. My fd is a from home volunteer one. Wish our call volume caught up to how busy we are with everything else.

My volunteer department has training every Monday night from 7-8:30pm. We practice with dry hydrants and test hose. (I have only been on for a month) We are supposed to be getting training with the extraction devices soon. We train hands-on with our Tanker and other apparatus.
