I recently had my ankle fused and I can no longer wear the regular firefighting boots. I have looked in Gall's and other catalogs. I used to wear a 10 inch height boot. I would like to know if anybody knows of a manufacturer that has a boot that more open at the top and is 8 to 10 inches in height. So if anyone has any information please leave comments.

Check on Haix boots, their structural boot is zip up and has an additional tightener on side of boot to make it as tight or loose as you want. Believe they are over $300 though so be warned, but are the most comfortable boot I have worn.

David, as Marc mentioned the Haix boots are very comfortable. I was injured a few years ago and when i came back to the office part time to do paperwork I could not do the laces or tie my shoes. I purchased a pair of Haix and have worn them for duty boots everyday since. They are spendy but well worth the cost. As was mentioned they have adjustments on the sides to allow flexibility for your feet. I love them .
What ever boot you get, you probably want to make sure that it has adequate padding around the areas that need support and protection. Additionally, it's not a bad idea to get a pair of sports orthotic inserts for your boots. What a difference they make! CB
