What do you mean the drill is hard? Is it just the waiting game that is the problem?
the waiting and getting use to it. im new at air packs have not used them much. also we dont get many calls tht involve this bc im a volenteer. Can u think of ways to get use to it and not feel like u need to take it off.
It's just a matter of getting used to wearing it and that takes time .If your station has stairs try donning a pack and climbing up and down them repeatedly.Eventually add a hose pack carry to this exercise. Any form of exertion while wearing one will help but time spent using one is key.
thank you so much! that will help alot i knw the key is to spend time and knw the pack in and out. thats something they touch at class. due to an injury tht accured in the last ff1 makes me nevoius and i needed tht help to knw wht to practice.

As I'm currently about to start FF1 I recommend not to let the injury from the previous class get to you to the point of making you nervous, find out what happened in detail and learn from the incident. If your too nervous you won't be focused on what you need to do. My time in the Marines I saw a number of Marines get over worked by the required Gas Mask Confidence Exercises, letting the notion of being in a room full of CS gas get to them. The advice I gave them is to clam down and trust in the gear, if you have complete trust and confidence that it will preform the task in which it is designed then you will be calm in the task(s) you must preform.

the best way to get used to the SCBA is to wear it! Go to the firehouse, put it on, walk around with it, change the bottle, and repeat. there really is no drill to get used to it.
thanks for all the support. I have completed the course with an airpack tht i could trust. I had this issue with trust bc the training pack would always break. THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT AND IDEAS THEY HELPED ALOT
