I am researching accountability systems for my department.  Can anyone give me a system that works well for them.  Our current system isn't working too well.  I am wanting something that we can scan at the truck.

Thanks for the info

Russell,

First thing you have to understand is that there is really two separate accountability needs and in almost all cases you will need two systems. Think of it this way: You need or at least should have a system that will allow you to recall what happened at the incident for both legal and training purposes. This means that you need to have some type of computer backed system. But computers don't work well up on the third floor of a fire building so you need to have a manual system that is useable as part of the overall system.
So I suggest that you look at using a PassPort system as your manual system and I suggest that you use FIT-Notes as your computer system. FIT-Notes does not need to have any particular SCBA and it can easily integrate all of your mutual or automatic aid departments. The ability to include all of these departments makes it useable by all of them or just a few of them.
Assuming you follow ICS as suggested by NIMS, then you will be able to use FIT-Notes right out of the box as it follows all of their protocols and you can still use your paper systems as a natural backup.
You can view the program at www.fitnotesllc.com.

Hope that helps, Jay Carnegie
The Passport system is great, and most importantly, it works when the electricity isn't working.

You can find out a lot about this system from IMS Alliance.
